Anniemiek van Vleuten (Netherlands) performed a late solo attack which stunned her rivals near the finiah to clinch her title with a fractured elbow! More amazingly, she is also the champion for all 3 femme Grand Tours - Giro d' Italia, Tour de France and La Vuelta - in 2022; completing a Grand Slam of all major titles in cycling.
Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) who finished fourth in the ITT was fresh off the La Vuelta as champion after taking time off to fine tune his form at his training camp. The peloton today gave this man 2 metres gap and he was never seen again. His final attaco 2 laps from the finish was so devastating that no one caught.
