Watch how the 36 year old Simon Clark consoled Alessandro de Marchi after the GIRO Grand Tour of Italy 2023, Stage 6.
Both of them escaped from the peloton and could have either won it near the line but played a spicy game of chicken. That cost them both the stage win instead.

That is class exemplified by Clark extended to de Marchi as a professional athlete where winning is not everything.
Clark could have completed his hat-trick of Grand Slam wins in all 3 different tours - France, Spain & Italy - if he had won the GIRO stage. Still in his interview to the press, his attitude shows that he knows what it meant to him and how he dealt with the loss positvely.
